In contrast to a retrospective view, as is common in the annual audit as at the reporting date, a continuous and digital audit opens up a completely new perspective on the company. The IT system audit is an original element of an annual audit and is therefore closely related to it. Whenever a new IT system is launched, processes are outsourced or data are migrated, it is always a mandatory subject for the upcoming audit. Nevertheless, an IT audit can also take place outside of the annual financial statements – whether it be during the planning, testing or launch phase of a new IT system or as part of special audits when there are GoBD, KRITIS or ISO certification issues. When you outsource processes to external service providers, remember to also keep an eye on their internal control system from a compliance perspective so that you can be certain that everyone involved has the same understanding of compliance.
